Certification Steps

  1. Login in at the CMS Portal. To the right of the screen you will see a box that says secure login click there.
  2. If you are a new user you will need to register by clicking New User Registration.
  3. If you are returning user you may click Login to CMS Secure Portal in the CMS portal
  4. After you have either clicked login or registered you will need to accept the terms.
  5. After that you will need to put in your login information
  6. It will then bring you to a page of vendors that you can take the ACA certification at.The CMS approved vendors are: America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), Gorman Health Group (Gorman), and National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). 
  7. This year you will have to pay for ACA certification
  8. The page with the vendors should look like the one belowaca certification vendors
  9. After you chose the vendor you will then chose the classes you would like to take (Individual vs Group) etc.
  10. Then you will pay for the classes
  11. You will have to complete a list of readings to get to the test.
  12. After you complete all readings you may take the test.
  13. You will then be certified for ACA

Important ACA Deadlines: 

  • November 1st, 2015 – Open Enrollment starts – the first day you can enroll in a 2016 health insurance plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Coverage can start as soon as January 1, 2016.
  • December 15, 2015 – The last day to enroll or change plans for a new coverage date to start on January 1, 2016
  • January 1, 2016 – The first day of 2016 coverage for those who enroll or change plans by December 15, 2015
  • January 15, 2016 – The last day to enroll in or change plans for new coverage to start on February 1, 2016
  • January 31, 2016 – Open Enrollment ends. Enrollments or changes between January 16 and January take effect March 1, 2016.
